Traipsed into the forest again today after class, had a nice talk with a dear friend. There were about a dozen of these beautiful little fiddleheads sproutin’ about in the light gap where we stood (excellent source of antioxidants, but be careful not to eat too much because they also have a potentially cancerous agent, ptaquiloside!), ruminating on life and the vagaries of relationships.
Somehow this conversation always comes up, and you’d have thought with eons of human development and advancement, we’d have figured all of this out by now. These ancient pteridophytes must have seen it all, and bundled within these precious tendrils of spore-borne life, they seem to whisper a faint secret. Nothing’s really changed, don’t you see?
