Coleoptera Gorgeous Violet Saberwing Frank and steel grey skies Stunning flora The Elfin Forest John pulling a fine one

Today was just phenomenal, but I guess I’m starting to realize that every day is. Frank took us on an orientation hike to the Continental Divide. Although it was foggy, it was a superb, exhausting expedition harmonized to the cries of Black-faced Solitaires and Nightingale Thrushes!

Notable bio-sightinings include Spittlebugs, a redstart nest, tons of rubiaceae and fungi (Jay was quick to point out!), millipedes, some peccary tracks, the elfin forest, and the Children’s Eternal Rainforest (which we snuck through the back end of…heh heh).

On the way back, Frank treated us some to DIVINE pastries at the Cafe Colibri, which is this neato little cafe by the Cloud Forest Reserve that puts out hummingbird feeders to attract, you guessed it, hummingbirds, and we’re talking dozens, right up in your face and completely habituated to humans snapping away. While we were there, some Dowdy faces were inevitably busted out…see John. We came back thoroughly caked in layers upon layers. Well-earned, beautiful layers.
