Tonight was our first time to visit the local bar Mata e Cana, and goodness, what a night! Trashy gringo music is straight up exquisite to get your groove on to, take due note. Not to mention, everyone’s totally up to dance - it’s fantastic, and leads to some embarrassing pictures (see: above), but what ebbs, ebbs!

Afterwards, I walked home with Katie and Hanna and we stopped to rest a bit at the pitch-black, steepest part of Sober Up Hill. We decided to just lay back in the dirt and enjoy the darkness. The only light the crystal web of stars, the only noise the intimate hum of the insects; really, all the comfort we ever needed.

We talked about how fortunate we were, and maybe it’s starting to sound like a broken record, but when you’re in a place like this it’s actually difficult to not be perpetually grateful and reflective. Scary thought is, natural splendor is everywhere, and it shouldn’t take being plopped into the nexus of the cloud forest to appreciate these simple bounties. Remember this.
